WHAT MAKES BUZZHOCKEY DIFFERENT?
Our focus since 1985 has changed very little. We do not condition players by skating them up and down the ice with no real purpose. Sports physiologists will tell you that when muscles are fatigued, lactic acid builds up and an athlete’s technique becomes weakened. Their skating fundamentals begin to falter, causing bad habits to set in, i.e., straight legs, hunched over back, swinging arms.
To play faster and more skillfully, training practices must reinforce 'quality' habits over and over again for several months. Our emphasis remains on the teaching the fundamental skating components in combination with the other essential hockey skills (stickhandling, shooting, passing and checking). All skills are worked on and perfected at increasingly faster speeds until the foundation is sound, strong and the technique perfect.
WHAT KIND OF SKATERS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Any player who wants to see dramatic improvement in their skill level and is willing to work hard to achieve their highest level of personal development.
IS JOHN BAZZACHINI ON THE ICE WITH THE SKATERS?
Yes! Every day at every session. Monday - Friday. He is also reachable on his cell phone (when he’s off the ice!) at 612-296-0039.
WHO ARE THE COACHES?
Our staffing goal is to present a wide range of expertise that allows each skater the opportunity to relate to different levels of success. The college and pro athlete(s) really get the kids excited, but they are only a small part of why our camps are so successful. Our staff features top local high school and college coaches who have a proven track record of awesome teaching skills. Also, we have top college players in addition to high school players who really motivate and communicate well with the kids.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
You can register online through the Registration link on our Website, or print the mail in registration form from the website and forward it to our mailing address at BUZZHOCKEY, PO Box 47894, Plymouth, MN 55447.
WHAT IS DRYLAND FOR?
Dry Land is designed to develop athleticism and work on the core muscle groups. The kids will work on sprints, balance, plyometrics and stick handling drills. It is a very important part of our curriculum and is a huge benefit in the area of strength conditioning and endurance. We not only hope to teach them skills to make them better athletes, we hope to stimulate their general interest in physical fitness. We have a full-time Dry Land instructor who charts each skater’s progress off-ice and will be able to provide measured results at the end of the summer.
WHAT IF I AM GOING ON VACATION FOR TWO WEEKS OR HAVE A CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER SPORT?
No problem. We allow skaters to make up any ice time that they have missed. The majority of your ice time should be spent in the session that you registered for, however, we encourage skaters to make up any missed ice times. There is no need to call ahead, simply find an age-appropriate session that will fit your schedule, and show up to make up the time you missed!
We ask that you do not abuse the make-up policy by registering for one session, but spending the majority of your time in another. We are the only training program that allows skaters to make up missed ice time, and really want to continue offering this benefit.
PAYMENT METHOD
A $200 deposit is required at time of registration, the balance Is due 30 days prior to the session. We do not accept credit cards. Checks should be made payable to BUZZHOCKEY. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 47894, Plymouth, MN 55447.
If you are registering for a session that costs less than $200, do not send in $200. Simply send in the session price for that particular session.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
The $200 deposit required at registration is non-refundable. Cancellations received after the start of the session will forfeit all payments.
DO YOU OFFER FAMILY DISCOUNTS?
Yes. We offer a $35.00 discount in our summer training for each sibling enrolled after the first registration.
WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL WE NEED?
Full hockey equipment is required for all players, except in learn to skate mini mite classes. The minimum requirement is helmet, elbow pads, gloves, shin pads, skates and stick.
DOES BUZZHOCKEY PROVIDE EQUIPMENT?
No. Each skater must have his or her own equipment. We do provide the skaters with jerseys and t-shirts.
WHY DO YOU SPEND SO MUCH TIME ON DRILLS VERSUS SCRIMMAGING?
Scrimmaging, while fun, does very little in the way of developing a skilled hockey player. The most skilled players of today, including college and professional hockey players, spend countless hours in fundamental skill development. The skill is what gets you to the next level in this highly competitive world of hockey.
CAN PARENTS STAY AND WATCH?
You are more than welcome to stay and watch.
CAN ANYONE SIGN UP FOR THE 3 V 3 LEAGUES?
Yes. The 3 v 3 and 4 v 4 “pond hockey” leagues were created to provide the fun “game” environment that kids are looking for, but at the same time, offering it in an educational setting. All games are played cross ice and players can sign up individually or as part of a team. For more information, visit our 3 v 3 Leagues link from our website.
IS THERE TRAINING FOR GOALIES?
Yes. We have a specific session dedicated to only goalies. Our goalie coaching staff creates game situations and focuses on screens, deflections, breakaways, even and odd man situations, handling the puck, following a player cutting in front of, and behind the net, one-timers from the slot, pass-outs, passes across the net, scrambles, wrap-arounds, rebounds, etc. Goalies must participate in training that encourages them to be more than a target for shooting drills.
Our goalies are encouraged to skate as a goalie in any or all of our skating sessions at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.
HOLD OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE IN BUZZHOCKEY?
We have a specific session designed for skaters in the age range of 4-6 years old. The time to start depends upon the maturity and interest of the child.
MY TEENAGER WOULD LIKE TO LEARN HOCKEY, IS IT TOO LATE?
Absolutely not! Skills can be taught at any age, including adults. The athletic ability, motivation, and well as the extra hours the player is willing to invest in the game will all impact on the rate they acquire the skills.
DO YOU HAVE TRAINING SPECIFIC TO GIRLS?
Yes. We have sessions for girls only. Some girls prefer to skate with the boys, but others prefer girls only. We offer two age levels of “girls only” sessions.
